Project Overview
Deegits Technology Ltd partnered with the Government of Malawi to design and deploy a national digital platform for the Adult Literacy and Education (ALE) programme. The system connects rural literacy centres across Malawi to a central government dashboard, enabling real-time reporting and data-driven programme management for the first time.
The Challenge
The national adult literacy programme spanned hundreds of learning centres in rural and semi-urban areas across Malawi. Data on learner enrolment, attendance, and performance was collected on paper and sent to the head office manually — a process that was slow, inconsistent, and prone to data loss. Government officials had no timely picture of programme progress across districts, making evidence-based policy decisions difficult.
The solution needed to work in areas with limited internet connectivity and be accessible to literacy facilitators with basic digital skills, while giving national managers a live, consolidated view of the programme.

Learner Enrolment & Profiles — Digital registration of adult learners with demographic data, literacy baseline assessments, and programme placement.
Real-Time Data Collection — Facilitators at local centres input attendance, performance, and resource data via mobile devices. Syncs with the central database when connectivity is available.
Centralised National Dashboard — Government officials at the head office see aggregated programme data across all districts — enrolment numbers, attendance rates, completion milestones, and drop-out trends.
Attendance & Performance Tracking — Centre-level and learner-level attendance records, session notes, and assessment scores with trend analysis.
Resource Management — Tracking of learning materials, teaching aids, and supplies distributed to each centre, with inventory alerts to prevent shortages.
Multi-Lingual Interface — System supports local languages to ensure literacy facilitators and participants can use it with confidence.
Reporting & Policy Tools — Auto-generated district and national reports for programme evaluation, donor reporting, and policy submissions. Exportable to PDF and Excel.
Role-Based Access — Centre facilitators, district officers, and national administrators each access only the data and tools relevant to their role.
